Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information the Wildrose Loyalty Coalition collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can see it, correct it, or tell us to stop contacting you.

01Who we are

The Wildrose Loyalty Coalition is a registered Alberta provincial political party. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy. In this document, “we,” “us” and “the party” mean the Wildrose Loyalty Coalition, and “you” means any supporter, member, volunteer, donor or website visitor whose information we hold.

We are not a business, and we do not sell products or services. We collect personal information for the purpose of political organizing, and for nothing else.

02What personal information we collect

We only collect what we need. Depending on how you interact with us, that may include:

• Identity and contact details — your first and last name, any preferred name, email address, phone or mobile number, and mailing address including city, province and postal code.
• Electoral information — your provincial electoral district, federal district, and where relevant a ward or poll identifier, so we can direct information that is actually relevant to where you live and vote.
• Membership information — your membership status and category, and the dates on which it started or was renewed.
• Contribution history — a record of political contributions you have made to the party, which we are required to track under Alberta election finance law.
• Involvement records — events you have registered for or attended, volunteer roles you have taken on, and short notes made by our staff or volunteers about your stated interests or requests, such as “wants lawn sign” or “asked not to be phoned.”
• Communication preferences — whether you have consented to email, whether you have asked not to be called, and the date and source of that choice.
• Consent records — for each email address, we keep a record of how consent was given, when it was given, and the exact wording you agreed to. We keep this so that we can demonstrate, at any time, that we had permission to write to you.

We do not collect or store payment card numbers, banking details, government identification numbers, or information about your health.

03Where we get it

Your information reaches us in one of four ways, and only these:

• You give it to us on this website — through the “Subscribe for updates” form, where you must tick an unchecked consent box before you can submit it.
• You give it to us on a membership or donation form — a paper or PDF form you complete and return to us.
• You give it to us in person — at an event, meeting, or when one of our volunteers speaks with you at your door, and you ask to be kept informed.
• From our own historical records — supporter records the party built up over time in its previous membership system, which we migrated into our current one.

04Why we use it

We use personal information to run a political party, specifically to:

• send party news, policy updates and campaign information you have asked to receive;
• invite you to meetings, town halls and events;
• administer memberships, including renewals;
• ask for and record political contributions, and meet our reporting obligations under Alberta election finance law;
• organize and coordinate volunteers, including canvassing and scrutineer recruitment;
• respond to questions, requests and complaints you send us; and
• understand, in aggregate, which regions and issues our supporters care about.

We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and we do not build psychological or behavioural profiles.

05Email and consent

We send email only to people who have asked to receive it. When you subscribe on this website, you must actively tick a box that is not pre-checked, next to wording that reads:

“Yes, I want to receive political news, membership information, event invitations, fundraising messages and campaign updates from the Wildrose Loyalty Coalition. I can unsubscribe at any time.”

We record the fact that you ticked it, the date and time, and the version of that wording you saw. If you gave us your address on a membership form or in person instead, we record that source in the same way.

Every email we send includes our full mailing address, a working reply address, a clearly visible unsubscribe link, and the one-click unsubscribe control that your email program may show at the top of the message.

06Withdrawing consent

You can withdraw your consent at any time, for any reason, without giving one. You do not have to explain yourself, and it will not affect your membership or your ability to contact us.

• Click the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we have sent you. This takes effect immediately.
• Use the one-click unsubscribe button shown by Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail and most other email programs.
• Write, call or email us using the details at the end of this policy, and we will remove you.

Once you unsubscribe, we stop sending you campaign email straight away, including any message already queued to go out. We keep a record of the fact that you unsubscribed — this is deliberate, and it is how we make sure you are not added back by a later import.

If an email to you permanently fails to deliver, or if you mark one of our messages as spam, our system automatically and permanently stops sending to that address without any action needed from you.

07Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent, trade or otherwise disclose your personal information to anyone for their own use. We are not in the business of monetizing supporter data.

We use a small number of service providers to operate, and they may process your information strictly on our instructions and only to provide their service to us:

• Amazon Web Services — delivers our email and hosts the systems that store our supporter records.
• Google — supplies the typefaces used on this website. Loading a page here means your browser requests those font files from Google, which involves your IP address. We do not use Google Analytics or any other analytics service.

We may also disclose personal information where the law requires it — for example, contribution records that must be reported to Elections Alberta, or a valid order from a court or regulator.

08Storage and processing outside Canada

Some of your personal information is stored and processed on servers located in the United States, in Amazon Web Services' Ohio region. This applies in particular to email addresses and the content of messages we send you.

While your information is in the United States, it is subject to the laws of that country, and may be accessible to United States courts, law enforcement and national security authorities under those laws. We tell you this so that you can make an informed choice about subscribing.

09How long we keep it

We keep supporter and membership records for as long as you remain involved with the party, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you return.

Contribution records are kept for the period required by Alberta election finance law, which is longer than we would otherwise keep them and is not something we can shorten at request.

Records of unsubscribes and consent are kept indefinitely, because they are the mechanism that protects you from being contacted again in error. These records contain only your email address and the fact and date of your choice.

If you ask us to delete your information and we are not required to keep it, we will.

10How we protect it

Access to our supporter database is restricted to authorized party staff and volunteers who need it for their role, and every account is individually credentialed. Connections to our systems are encrypted, our records are held in a private database that is not reachable from the public internet, and access is logged.

No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities.

11Seeing and correcting your information

You have the right to ask us:

• whether we hold personal information about you;
• for a copy of that information;
• to correct anything that is wrong or out of date; and
• to delete it, where we are not required to keep it.

Write to us using the details below. We will respond within 30 days. There is no charge. We may need to confirm your identity before releasing information, to make sure we are not disclosing your details to someone else.

12Our website

This website does not use advertising trackers, third-party analytics, social media pixels, or cookies that follow you across other sites. We do not run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or anything comparable.

Our web server keeps a technical log of which page was requested and when, so that we can investigate faults and security problems. We do not store your IP address. Before the entry is written, your address is replaced with a one-way hash — a scrambled value that cannot be turned back into the original. It stays consistent for the same visitor, so we can see that one person requested several pages, but it does not tell us who you are or where you are.

These logs are deleted automatically after 30 days. We chose to record them this way deliberately: reading about a political party should not require handing over your address, but we still need to be able to tell whether our site has been probed or misused.

Where our site remembers something for your convenience, such as dismissing a pop-up, that is stored in your own browser and is never transmitted to us.

13Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the “last updated” date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so in an email to subscribers rather than relying on you to notice.
