The Way Forward

The outcome from Danielle Smith’s referendum was disappointing, but despite insurmountable odds and a rigged referendum, nonetheless, a half a million Albertans stepped forward to say they have had enough, no longer satisfied with the status quo.

Those voices won’t be silenced. Those orphaned Albertans, who as a result of Smith’s decree that they either toe the line or find another party, need a home. The conversation needs to continue and the most important and effective place for that to continue is in the people’s house, the Alberta Legislature.

As explained in our history, “Who Are We?”, in an interview with CTV in May 2025, Danielle Smith, while declaring that her job was “to make sure it (a referendum on independence) doesn’t get to yes”, also explained that she was playing the independence movement along with the possibility of a referendum on independence as an “outlet” to prevent the creation of a new party.

Well, the Wildrose Loyalty Coalition is stepping up to be that party that Smith feared, offering a home for those Albertans whose primary loyalty is to the wild rose and not to the maple leaf.

In Summary

Objective

To elect a minimum of 4 independence-supporting MLAs to the Alberta Legislature as at least 4 sitting MLAs are required to receive official party status in the Alberta Legislative Assembly. Official status grants a political caucus formal parliamentary privileges, including dedicated funding for researchers and staff, as well as guaranteed, proportional time to ask questions during the daily Oral Question Period.

Candidates will only run in selected rural ridings guided by the support received for Option 2 in the recent referendum.

Platform

The message from the Wildrose Loyalty Coalition is that while our North Star is a release from federal overreach through independence, in the meantime, we will endeavour to make Alberta as autonomous as possible and implement legislation that protects Alberta’s provincial jurisdiction from federal encroachment. For far too long, the implementation of the kind of measures recommended by Stephen Harper and five others as published 25 years ago in 2001 in an open letter, known as Firewall Letter, to then Premier Ralph Klein, has remained dormant. That has to end. In general, the overarching objective is more Alberta and less Ottawa.

We will start with pressing for the implementation of the type of measures that Danielle Smith campaigned on that “must be implemented” but never delivered because of her “Loyalty to a united Canada”, a so-called ‘founding principle’ that contrary to her lie, was never adopted at the UCP’s Founding General Meeting.

Interestingly, in an article, “How Alberta can stop acting as Canada’s doormat”, penned for the Edmonton Journal seven years ago in 2019, Danielle Smith had advised then Premier Jason Kenney to “act quickly” to “resurrect the ‘firewall’ proposals”, akin to what was in the Free Alberta Strategy document that Smith used for her election campaign, in order “to stem the tide of Alberta separation”. By her inaction on these matters, Smith has clearly shown that she is satisfied having Alberta remain as Canada’s doormat.

Wildrose Loyalty Coalition MLAs in the Legislature will press for implementation of the type of reforms that Danielle Smith promised, according to the Free Alberta Strategy, co-authored by her current chief of staff and fellow floor-crosser Rob Anderson, and never delivered such as:

  • Alberta Provincial Police Force
  • Alberta Independent Banking Act
  • Alberta Judicial Independence Act
  • Equalization Termination
  • Alberta Revenue Agency
  • Alberta Pension Plan
  • Alberta Unemployment Insurance.

A number one, first priority would be to garner as much provincial control as possible with respect to immigration.

Also, in keeping with our mission to keep our province free from any influence of globalism, we will push to stop any engagement with the climate change agenda and, by doing so, uphold resolutions overwhelmingly passed by her UCP membership at each of the last two AGMs, rejecting net carbon-zero targets and removing the designation of carbon dioxide, essential for life on the planet, as a pollutant. Not only has Smith ignored her membership but she has actively worked against their interests by aligning herself with globalist climate change fanatic, Mark Carney.
